Maria is an old woman from a village in southern Italy. A life has passed, now made up of memories and secrets. Out of a chest comes her wedding dress, with its skimmed whiteness and tired seams, and with it a dream - the one of the night before her wedding. A dream never before told. Awakened by the mysteries of memory, the truth bursts forth again - phantasmagorical, absurd and joyful. 

Maria's memories are jostled and contradicted - ‘it was a tarantella, but I was a Spanish dancer at the time; the piano had swallowed me up - or was it the singing that died out ? - but, fortunately for the audience, a curious fish character remembers everything and takes pleasure in inventing the story.
